Major Arcana
Justice
Justice sits with a sword upright in one hand and scales in the other, facing directly forward — the only Major Arcana figure who looks straight at you. The card is about consequence: the arithmetic of what you have actually done, weighed without sympathy and without malice. It appears around legal matters, contracts and formal decisions, and just as often around the private version — the point where a long-running behaviour finally produces its result. Justice is not karma in the cosmic sense. It is cause and effect with the delay expired. The sword matters as much as the scales. This card measures, and then it acts. If you are waiting on a decision, Justice says one is genuinely coming and that it will be based on the facts rather than on how hard you hoped. Whether that is comforting depends on the facts.

Upright meaning
Fairness, accountability, and a decision reached on the evidence. Upright, Justice favours legal proceedings, contracts, negotiations, and any situation that turns on the record. It says the outcome will be proportionate — good news if you have been straight, sobering if you have not. Tell the truth and put it in writing.
Reversed meaning
The scales are off. Reversed, Justice covers unfairness, consequences delayed or avoided, dishonesty not yet caught, and accountability landing on the wrong person. It can also mark someone judging themselves far more harshly than the facts support. Check whether the standard being applied is the one you would apply to anyone else.
What the card offers
Fair outcomes are likely; act with integrity.
Justice in love
Honesty, and the balance of what each person gives. Justice turns up where something is uneven and both people know it. It supports the difficult conversation, the renegotiated arrangement, and the relationship that improves once the truth is on the table. In legal terms it is straightforwardly marriage, divorce, and custody. It has no interest in who feels more wronged.
Justice in work and career
Contracts, fairness, and consequence. This is the card for the negotiation done properly, the complaint that is upheld, the audit, and the pay gap finally addressed. Justice favours whoever has the facts and the documentation. It is also the card of accountability arriving — if something was handled badly earlier, this is where it returns for settlement.
Justice and wellbeing
Cause and effect in the body, read without flinching. Justice is the card for the honest assessment: the test result, the habit that has been quietly accumulating, the balance between how much you take out and how much you put back. It is not punitive, but it is exact. What has been done is reflected in what is happening now.
Justice on the spiritual path
Truth as a standard outside your preferences. Justice weighs, and it is indifferent to how much you want the answer to be otherwise. Practice here is examination of conscience — seeing your own conduct with the same clarity you apply to other people's — and accepting that a moral universe implies consequences you will not always like.
