Queen of Wands

The Queen of Wands sits facing forward with a sunflower in one hand and a staff in the other, a black cat at her feet. She is the only court figure in the suit who is entirely still, and she is the most powerful one in it. She is warmth and authority in the same person — the one who makes a room easier to be in and is completely immovable on the things that matter to her. Her confidence is not performed. She has nothing to prove to the people she is talking to, which is exactly why they listen. As a situation, she describes a position held through presence rather than argument. She favours people who are liked and not manageable, who are generous with attention and unbudgeable about their own direction. The cat is the detail worth keeping: affectionate, and not anybody's.
