Seven of Wands
A man stands on high ground with a staff, facing six more wands pushing up from below. He is not attacking and he is not retreating. He is holding a position he already occupies, against pressure from people who want it. The Seven of Wands is the card of defending something you have earned. A role, a boundary, a body of work, an opinion that has become unfashionable. Note the terrain: he has the advantage and it is still hard. The card does not promise the fight is unfair, only that it is constant. What makes it difficult is the temptation to explain. Everyone who challenges you feels entitled to a full account, and answering each one is how a position gets worn down. The card favours holding rather than persuading — you can be right without convincing the six people who would rather you were not.

Upright meaning
Standing your ground under sustained pressure. Upright, the Seven of Wands favours defending a position, a boundary, or work you believe in against people with a stake in your backing down. The defence is failing, or was never needed.
