Two of Cups

A man and a woman exchange cups, and above them rises a winged lion's head over the caduceus of Hermes. The figures are equal in the frame, facing each other, and the exchange is happening in both directions at once. The Two of Cups is mutual recognition. It is not attraction, which is one-sided by default, and it is not commitment, which comes later. It is the moment two people acknowledge the same thing at the same time — in love, in friendship, in a working partnership that clicks. Its condition is reciprocity, and that makes it one of the more demanding cards in the suit. A cup held out and not taken is a different card entirely.
